Mother's Day 2020: How I Celebrated My Momma in Quarantine
Hi Everyone,
Wow, time is sneaking up on us, isn’t it? I can’t believe Mother’s Day has already come and passed! I thought I’d have a little more time to prepare and plan, but holy moly, I didn’t realize how quick time has been going!
My younger brother and I are both very close with our momma and we always like to do something special for her every year on Mother’s Day and her birthday. We usually go out to brunch or go out to dinner as a family, we had to get creative this year since Mother’s Day occurred while we’re all still in quarantine.
My mom actually sort of helped us out with thinking of her Mother’s Day gifts so thanks momma! In April, she planned out a super fun Butter Mochi Webinar from Jessica Wang of Picklé featuring Sonoko Sakai. She and my brother FaceTimed me while we each watched the webinar via Zoom, and it was so much fun! After that class, Peter and I looked through Picklé’s catalog of classes and he decided to get the Kimchi Making class for her. I decided to get the Knife Skills Class from Brooklyn Kitchen’s Webinar selection since my mom and I both got nice Japanese knives from my trip to Japan, and I may or may not have already seen that my mom was interested in that class.
Since the classes happened before Mother’s Day, we sent my mom emails at the same time and then we all FaceTimed her so she could “open up” her gifts in front of us. She was very excited and since LA had recently announced free COVID testing to residents, I was able to schedule a test and get the okay to safely go down and visit my family. We had a really fun weekend together, and she had a great Mother’s Day. Both me and my brother are currently out of work, but even with a limited budget, I feel like we were still able to give her a really good celebration. This is what our Mother’s Day Weekend looked like.

Some of them can even make great date nights or just ways to connect with friends and loved ones.
